Ahead of their big-time matchup with Penn State on Saturday, Auburn named kicker Anders Carlson as an honorary captain. The kicker recently moved into second in the Tigers’ all-time scoring list, trailing his older brother, Daniel Carlson.

Carlson is in his fifth season at Auburn, appearing in 49 games to date. He’s missed just three extra points in his career. His career field goal percentage — 72.3% — is dinged by a handful of rough seasons. His best season came in 2020, when he went 20-for-22, a 90.9% hit rate.

Carlson will presumably have the rest of this year to try and chase down his brother. Daniel current sits atop the Auburn all-time scorers list for football with 480 points. He made 92 field goals, 198 extra points and even rushed for a touchdown.

The younger Carlson has no touchdowns in his career, 68 field goals and 160 extra points for 364 points scored in his career.

Auburn announced a new interim athletic director on Tuesday

Just before football season began, Auburn and athletic director Allen Greene decided to part ways with one another, according to On3’s Auburn Live. His contract was in the final year and there was no progress made toward a new one. Instead of letting the process play out, the band-aid was ripped off.

For a few weeks, Marcy Girton had served as the acting athletic director while Auburn waited to name an interim. On Tuesday, university president Dr. Chris Roberts announced Rich McGlynn would hold that position.

McGlynn had previously been in the Auburn athletic department, serving as the Executive Associate AD. He also worked with the compliance department since arriving on campus in 2006. Prior to being on the Plains, McGlynn worked with the NCAA in multiple roles.

Auburn is still expected to conduct a national search to find their next athletic director. However, until Dr. Roberts can go through the process and get things rolling, McGlynn will be the man to lead the Tigers’ athletic department.
