Auburn Tigers’ offensive lineman Brodarious Hamm announced on his Twitter page on Wednesday morning that he is officially five-years cancer free.

Check out the tweet he posted at 11: 24 AM today.

Coaches across college athletics and college football often note how thin of a line there is between winning and losing games. Such can be the case for life as well. There is an incredibly thin line between things going good and things going badly. Nobody knows that better than the 6-6, 334-pounder.

“These last couple years have been tough and things can change in a snap,” Hamm said. “But all that we’ve gone through as a team has helped me grow as a player and as a leader. Knowing things could change has helped me remain consistent,” he said in an interview transcribed by Kendra Willard of auburntigers.com.

He was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma back in February 2016, just two weeks after he signed his national letter of intent with Auburn.

Per mayoclinic.org, “Hodgkin’s lymphoma — formerly known as Hodgkin’s disease — is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of your immune system. It may affect people of any age, but is most common in people between 20 and 40 years old and those over 55.” Hamm is not the only Auburn player who’s had to battle cancer during his time there.

Hamm and Manning were both diagnosed with cancer

His teammate, Auburn offensive lineman, Tashawn Manning, has also dealt with cancer during his time there. Manning was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia in March of 2016.

Both players have gone from being cancer survivors to starters on the Auburn offensive line.

Hamm’s battle with cancer is not the only point of adversity he’s had to face during his college football career.

His son, Karter, died unexpectedly in February of 2020, just a few months after his wife, Kayla, gave birth to him.

The behemoth has been a fixture for the Tigers at right tackle the past two seasons. Ironically enough, when he was having his toughest time off the field in 2020, he had one of his best seasons on the field.

Hamm and his wife welcomed a new baby girl in November of 2020. He recently spoke about how much it motivates him for his daughter to watch him play. “It definitely motivates me knowing my baby girl is watching,” Hamm said in Kendra Willard’s article on auburntigers.com. “Just knowing that my daughter and wife look up to me and are depending on me. It motivates me to keep going and be that leader on the field.”

Both Hamm and Manning are both wise lessons in adversity to us all that, no matter what life throws your way, continue to plow forward! Great things are around the corner.
