Auburn Tigers outfielder Chris Stanfield has entered the Transfer Portal.
Stanfield played two seasons with the Tigers and appeared in 52 games while starting 51 in 2024 with a .276 batting average, a .365 on-base percentage, and a .395 slugging percentage for the season. He had four home runs and 25 RBIs on 51 total hits. He also stole nine bases. He struck out 38 times in 185 at-bats.
On the defensive side of the ball, Stanfield had a .981 fielding percentage, only making two errors while making 103 putouts and two outfield assists.
In May of 2024, he was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
Chris Stanfield attended Chiles High School in Tallahassee, Florida, where he was one of the top-rated players coming out of high school. He was ranked by Perfect Game as the 84th-best player in the country and the 20th-best player overall. On top of that, he was also the 17th-ranked player and the fifth-ranked outfielder in the state of Florida.
The 2024 season was a frustrating one for the Auburn Tigers, who went 27-26 overall and just 8-22 in SEC play. With that, Auburn was one of just three SEC teams to miss out on the NCAA Tournament this season. It also comes just a season after the Tigers hosted their own Regional, which they were unable to win a game during.
In the end, Chris Stanfield’s last series as an Auburn Tiger came against the Alabama Crimson Tide. That ended up being a series win, even if the final game of the series was a loss. He had two hits and two RBIs during that series, including a double.

The Transfer Portal for NCAA Baseball
There are two windows for the Transfer Portal in college baseball. The more notable of the two opens in late May, while the NCAA Tournament is still underway, and will remain open for 45 total days. There is, however, another portal window in December that lasts 15 days.
Baseball is unique in its scholarship distribution. Because of that, there is a key difference in baseball from sports like football, where both the players and the schools need to understand how the portal is going to impact those scholarship distributions.
NCAA Division I programs are given more than 11 but fewer than 12 total scholarships to work with. That means that players are often receiving partial scholarships, and when a transfer goes to a school that can’t offer as much as the previous school they were at did, that needs to be taken into account.
Still, plenty of players are going to enter the Transfer Portal in college baseball.
