Auburn product voted as top cornerback at Senior Bowl practice week

Many of the nation’s top college football stars are down in Mobile, Alabama, this week at the Senior Bowl, to showcase their talents before NFL decision makers.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl is just one of many All-Star games leading up to the NFL Draft in April. Players across the country from a variety of schools have been given the chance to showcase their skills in front of NFL coaches, scouts, GMs and decision makers.
One player who turned heads in practice this week is former Auburn cornerback Roger McCreary. Check out the tweet from Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy.
Not only was he named the top defensive back by the wide receiver group for the American team, but check out the rainbow visor and the Auburn gloves. If there were an award for swag or drip at the Senior Bowl week, McCreary would definitely be in contention.
He aggravated his wrist during a drill on Wednesday.
Check out a clip of McCreary going up against former Virginia Tech wide receiver Tre Turner in a one-on-one drill on Wednesday.
The former Auburn star established himself as one of the nation’s premiere cover corners the past few years. Per PFF, McCreary had 20 pass breakups when playing press coverage since 2019. That’s good enough for the second most in the nation during that time frame. First was Cincinnati defensive back Coby Bryant with 23 pass breakups.

One of McCreary’s most impressive performances of this season came in the Iron Bowl against Alabama on Nov. 27, when he had four pass breakups against Jameson Williams. He also followed Williams for more than 75 percent of the game.
The Alabama star wide receiver was ejected for targeting in the second quarter, but there’s no question McCreary’s elite performance was a big reason why the Crimson Tide offense was held scoreless in the first half.
During the season for Auburn, McCreary racked up 49 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, one sack, and 14 pass breakups. His 14 pass breakups put him in a tie for fourth in the nation.
The Senior Bowl will be televised on NFL Network on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
