The Auburn Tigers advanced to Omaha and earned a berth in the College World Series after defeating Oregon State in Game 3. It’s the program’s second appearance in the final eight over the past three tournaments.

After losing on Sunday, Auburn was able to get out of a fast start in Game 3 thanks to a home run from Sonny DiChiara in the third inning. Two more runs were added in the sixth inning and the Tigers were able to hold on, despite a mini-comeback from Oregon State.

After the result was official, players flooded to the pitcher’s mound, where the celebration was on. A dog pile ensued on the road as Auburn is off to compete for a national championship once again in Omaha.

After a wild Game 1 between the teams that Auburn won 7-5, Game 2 was a much more calm game despite the higher stakes for Oregon State. Their first game featured an explicit outburst between Oregon State pitcher Mitchell Verburg and Auburn outfielder Bobby Pierce — with Verburg striking out Pierce and shouting at him that he “Struck you out three times!”

Pierce had a visible reaction to Verburg’s outburst, telling him to, “F****** get over there,” pointing towards Oregon State’s dugout.

Ultimately, Oregon State got the last laugh in that game but not in the series. While Game 2 didn’t feature the same level of bad blood, the game was heavily contested throughout. Oregon State’s continued offense managed to put runs on the board, out-hitting the Tigers throughout the game.

Game 3 was the deciding factor, where pitching was a key throughout for both teams. In the end, Auburn held off Oregon State over the final two innings and will face Ole Miss in their first game in the College World Series.
