Auburn quarterback Holden Geriner plans to enter Transfer Portal
Auburn Tigers quarterback Holden Geriner plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
In three seasons with the Tigers, Geriner completed nine of 20 passes for 116 yards and an interception. That includes two completions for 33 yards during the 2024 season. He also has -23 rushing yards for his career, with sacks counting against a quarterback’s rushing total.
Geriner first came to Auburn as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry Ranking after playing his high school football at Benedictine Military School in Georgia. He was the 15th-ranked quarterback in that recruiting cycle.
The decision by Holden Geriner to transfer came at about the same time that it was reported that another Auburn quarterback, Hank Brown, will also be transferring. The decision by each of those quarterbacks came a day after the Tigers’ season ended with an Iron Bowl loss. Add in that Payton Thorne is out of eligibility and it appears the Tigers are going to have an entirely new looking quarterback room in 2025.

Quarterback became a position of concern for the Auburn Tigers in 2024. In particular, head coach Hugh Freeze struggled to find a quarterback who could avoid turnovers and successfully run this offense, at one point benching Payton Thorne before returning to him. That was, partially, why the Tigers struggled on offense and ended the season at 5-7.
The Auburn Tigers are excited by their incoming 2025 recruiting class, which is currently fifth in the country, according to the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings. That class is highlighted by quarterback Deuce Knight, who is the fifth-ranked quarterback in his class. On top of that, Freeze and Auburn will have their own opportunity to add through the Transfer Portal.
As for Holden Geriner, he will now begin to look for a new opportunity in college football. That will likely be one where he has more opportunity to be high on the team’s depth chart. After all, he has proven in the past to be a talented signal caller.
Holden Geriner will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at his new school.
