Auburn WR Caleb Burton III to enter NCAA transfer portal
Auburn wide receiver Caleb Burton III will enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Burton has spent the past two seasons at Auburn, where his production varied quite a bit. He logged just two catches for 49 yards during the 2024 campaign, his sophomore season.
He had a little more output as a freshman in 2023, when he caught 16 passes for 226 yards.
Prior to enrolling at Auburn, Burton originally enrolled at Ohio State. He transferred programs prior to the 2023 season.
Before he was in the college ranks, Caleb Burton checked in as a four-star recruit and the No. 160 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He was also the No. 28 wide receiver in his class and the No. 26 overall player in the state of Texas, hailing from Del Valle (TX) Lake Travis.

Auburn also losing safety Caleb Wooden
Auburn receiver Caleb Burton isn’t the only one set to depart the program, as safety Caleb Wooden plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells On3. The junior has one year of eligibility remaining.
He posted 17 tackles, one interception and a pass deflection in 2024. The former three-star recruit will depart The Plains with 41 career tackles, two pass breakups and two interceptions.
The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.
On3’s Pete Nakos also contributed to this report.
