JD Pickell: Predicting every game of Auburn's 2022 schedule
At one point in the offseason, it seemed as if Auburn was going to be looking for a new head coach. Bryan Harsin was connected to a ton of rumors before the program decided to give him another shot on the Plains. A lot of pressure is on Harsin heading into the year, needing to deliver a better record than last season’s 6-7.
Somewhere around seven or eight wins may be the number and that’s exactly where On3’s J.D. PicKell thinks the Tigers will fall. PicKell decided to predict every matchup of the 2022 season for Auburn, giving a game-by-game analysis, saying the Tigers ultimately finish 7-5.
Week 1 vs. Mercer: Win
Week 2 vs. San Jose State: Win
Week 3 vs. Penn State: Win
Week 4 vs. Missouri: Win
Week 5 vs. LSU: Loss
Week 6 vs. Georgia: Loss
Week 7 vs. Ole Miss: Loss
Week 8: BYE
Week 9 vs. Arkansas: Loss
Week 10 vs. Mississippi State: Win
Week 11 vs. Texas A&M: Win
Week 12 vs. Western Kentucky: Win
Week 13 vs. Alabama: Loss
More on Auburn, 2022 schedule
An advantage Harsin will have early on is the home crowd. Auburn will not leave home for the first five games of the season. Taking advantage will be a must if the Tigers want to live up to expectations in 2022.
Having your two main rivals being Alabama and Georgia is tough. Playing both of them on the road is even worse, especially for a head coach with a lot of pressure. PicKell predicts Auburn to lose both of those, something that has become a common theme away from Jordan-Hare Stadium.

On a positive note, PicKell has the Tigers having two different winning streaks throughout the season. Getting a nonconference win against Penn State would be a huge boost of confidence for the program, especially after dropping last year’s contest. Opening SEC play up against Missouri would set the tone for Auburn as well.
Although there is a four-game losing streak following, responding with wins against Mississippi State and Texas A&M would be nice surprises. Auburn will be looking for revenge against the Bulldogs specifically after their heartbreaking loss at home last season.
Overall, 7-5 could be considered a success for Auburn. Continually playing one of the hardest schedules in the country, Harsin would be showing positive progress with the program — and that’s before a potential bowl win.
