Jaylin Williams, Allen Flanigan undecided on futures at Auburn
Auburn‘s NCAA Tournament run came to an end on Saturday, as they fell to No. 1 seed Houston 81-64. As the Tiger’s season comes to an end, some Auburn seniors are now faced with an interesting crossroads moving forward with an additional year of eligibility granted from COVID-19 in the 2020 season. Two of those seniors are Jaylin Williams and Allen Flanigan, who both spoke about their early thoughts regarding a return to Auburn next season or not, starting with Williams.
“I haven’t really thought much about it you, know. I’m locked into what’s now — what was now. So now I will think more about it, and talk with my mom and my family, and talk with B.P., and see what’s best for me and what’s going to work out. Never really thought much about it,” Williams admitted.
Williams celebrated a career year this season for the Tigers in his senior season. He notched career highs in points, assists, and steals per game, also matching his career high in rebounding. Williams was the team’s third-leading scorer this season, averaging 11.2 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
There’s no question that Williams returning to the team would be huge for the Tigers, but so would a return for Flanigan as well, who also seems to have not given his future with the program too much thought.

“We was focused, locked-in on the season,” Flanigan said. “Wasn’t thinking about what’s next for us. We was locked in on the season trying to expand the season and keep going and keep playing with this team. Now that this has come to an end, sit down and talk to coach, and talk to my family and make a decision.”
Flanigan’s 10.1 points and 5 rebounds per game were huge for the Tigers this season. He played some of his best ball in the most important moments of the season, scoring in double figures in his last five games which includes their game versus rival Alabama, their SEC Tournament game, and their NCAA Tournament run.
He’s started the most games out of any Tiger on the current roster with 69 starts under his belt in four seasons. There’s no question that the veteran presence of himself and Williams will be missed next season if they do decide not to return, but it’s also clear their main focus has been on the journey of their senior season. The two have some time to make their decision, and it will be intriguing to see what the duo decides to do moving forward.
