Lately, there has been a lot of discussion about the format of spring games. These glorified scrimmages are designed to spark interest in the team during a time of year when most people forget about football, though they often suffer from a lack of interest. Now, Auburn is trying to change that.

In a post on the Auburn Football Twitter account, the Tigers announced a new format to the team’s “A-Day” Spring Game, with a little help from offensive lineman Jeremiah Wright.

You can watch the announcement, here:

The video starts with Wright breaking down the schedule for Auburn’s Spring Game.

A-Day is this Saturday, April 8th. It starts at 10 a.m. with Fan Fest. Then, Tiger Walk is going to start at 11:30 a.m. Eagle flight will then be at 12:30 p.m. depending on the weather. Fifteen minutes after that, the team is going to hit the field.

“The Freeze era is here. We have offense vs. defense. Defense is up 24-0. Offense, we’re down. It’s our job to put some points on the board. Let’s go,” Wright explained.

“60-minute running clock. No quarters. We’re looking forward to seeing you guys out there. War Eagle.”

It sounds like the goal of A-Day is to show that the Auburn offense is capable of being explosive against its talented defense. This was, after all, a recent issue for the Tigers that new head coach Hugh Freeze is trying to rectify. Add the running clock to keep things moving and you have a fun day at the game for fans.

Hugh Freeze has his eye on the quarterbacks

Auburn is undergoing an ongoing quarterback competition. For Hugh Freeze, he’s excited to see how that ongoing competition is going to affect them and the team moving forward.

“I think he has a real chance to be a solid quarterback,” Freeze said of Holden Geriner. “But I think the other two, again, had good days also, better days. The interesting thing will be their response to the competition that’s created and that has been created, that will continue to go on.

“Being the quarterback, to me, at an SEC school at a place like Auburn carries a lot of weight with it. And that weight doesn’t end when spring practice 15 is over. How does that go through summer? What does that look like in the leadership of this team? That will all play into, ultimately, who gets that first nod. It’ll be interesting to see how all respond to that.”
