Bo Nix’s decision to enter the transfer portal left quite a hole in the Auburn quarterbacks room. He spoke Friday about leaving the Tigers and his relationship with coach Bryan Harsin.

Nix went on The Next Round to talk about why he went into the portal and how things went with Harsin. From the sounds of it, it was nothing but love from the now-former Tigers quarterback.

In fact, he was close with both Harsin and now-former offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

“I think Coach Harsin was one of the main reasons that I developed this year,” Nix said. “Like I mentioned to him a lot, I appreciate him for what he did when he came in and allowed me to kind of transform my game. … He taught me a new system and he was very good at teaching that system.

“So I can attribute most of my growth to he and Coach Bobo. They both had a great hand in my transformation this year and I think that without either one of those guys, I wouldn’t be in the same position that I’m in right now and obviously it starts with Coach Harsin coming in. It was his system and Coach Bobo was calling the plays, so they both put me in a great situation.”

Bobo was let go last month after one year with Auburn.

Bo Nix: ‘Coach Harsin and I have a really good relationship’

Nix elaborated on his relationship with Harsin, dispelling rumors of a falling out between the two. In fact, he said things ended as well as they could’ve at Auburn.

“Coach Harsin and I have a really good relationship,” Nix said. “I think from a quarterback to a coach, it’s like anybody else would have. There’s no negative feelings towards him and he has no negative feelings towards me. It ended very smoothly, although people may think it was different and think it was like some knock-down drag-out for me to leave, and that’s not the case at all.

“But Coach Harsin and Auburn [are] going to be really good next year, they’re going to be really good in the future and Coach Harsin’s taken that team to great levels. I just felt like for me, personally, it was a personal decision and things just kind of had to change on my end. I felt like it was the right opportunity and it was the right decision.”
