Bruce Pearl is waiting to see what his Auburn roster looks like next season considering how many Tigers are weighing their options. One name that the program hasn’t heard much from is graduate guard Allen Flanigan.

However, Pearl says it’s no big deal considering how Flanigan’s circumstances are different than those of his other players. For now, he’s just focused on seeing him graduate and, from there, he knows that he will start to come down to a decision.

“I think you’ve seen Wendell (Green) and Johni (Broome), Dylan (Cardwell), and Jaylin (Williams) all declared, made themselves eligible for the draft, which then allows them to go work out (and) eligible to be invited to go to Chicago to the combine when that happens,” Pearl said. “That’s usually a very strong indicator about whether or not you have a good chance to be drafted.”

“In Al’s case, he has already declared twice. So you can’t declare a third time. If you do, you have to stay in the draft,” explained Pearl. “So there’s no reason for him to declare anything. Hopefully, Al will graduate and then, after his graduation, he’ll weigh all of his options.”

Flanigan has averaged 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per game over 114 career games at Auburn. Of those appearances, he was a member of their starting lineup 69 times. He has proven to be a potential NBA Draft prospect before considering his previous declarations but, due to that, his third straight offseason with a decision to make is going to look a little bit different.

Everything will likely be on the table for Flanigan. He will consider all options in a return to The Plains, a start to his pro career, or a transfer. Still, considering his circumstances, Pearl isn’t concerned about the lack of information around Flanigan’s future at the moment.

Auburn lands Division II transfer Chaney Johnson

Auburn basketball just landed a top Division II transfer out of the portal. On Friday afternoon, former Alabama Huntsville guard Chaney Johnson announced his comment to the Tigers. He last played for UAH in 2021-22. He averaged 16.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and earned All-Gulf South Conference.

Despite coming from a lower division, rankings still regard Johnson as a top transfer target. He is the No. 33 overall player in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings and the No. 7 small forward — and that’s out of over 1,000 guys and more than 250 small forwards.
