With basketball teams across the country ramping up for the start of the season next week, coaches across the country are hoping for no last-minute scares on the injury front. That’s no longer the case for Auburn’s Bruce Pearl considering C Johni Broome had to leave the Tiger’s lone exhibition on Wednesday night.

Following the 102-66 victory over AU-Montgomery, Pearl addressed Broome’s health after the junior left the 36-point win early on. He described it as a shoulder injury to his rotator cuff from what they could tell last night.

“A little bit of a pinch in his rotator cuff,” Pearl said. “That’s kind of, right now, what it looks like.”

Broome played just three minutes against the Warhawks due to the injury. He was only able to accumulate one rebound and a turnover as he went 0-2 in around 180 seconds of action.

His loss gave an opportunity that Dylan Cardwell took advantage of. The senior came in in Broome’s place and put up a near double-double of nine points, ten rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

Even so, there’s doesn’t seem to be much to worry about on The Plains as far as Broome’s health. With five days between now and their season opener against Baylor in Sioux Falls, Pearl doesn’t expect this matter to affect Broome for too long.

“He should be okay,” Pearl said.

Aden Holloway tweaks ankle in exhibition, should be good for opener vs. Baylor

The Auburn Tigers got an early taste of college basketball action on Wednesday night against the Auburn-Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks.

Following the game, Auburn fans got an update on the injury status of G Aden Holloway. The good news for Auburn fans is that he should be good to go for their matchup with Baylor on Tuesday, according to a statement by Bruce Pearl after their exhibition game on Wednesday evening.

“Aden Holloway tweaked his ankle in the exhibition against Furman and actually only played only a couple of minutes (on Wednesday night). He should be back for Baylor.”

Holloway played high school basketball at Prolific Prep, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 18 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 2 CG as well as the No. 2 prospect out of California.

Their season opener against Baylor (Tuesday, Nov. 7th) will be nationally televised on ESPN. Tip time for that one is 9:00 PM EST.
