Bruce Pearl's daughter fires back at beat writer over her dad's reputation
In the world of social media, it should surprise absolutely nobody that one of Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl’s family members came to his defense over the weekend. Senior writer of Vols247 Wes Rucker caught some serious heat after he mentioned Bruce Pearl and LSU head coach Will Wade in a tweet. Bruce Pearl’s daughter, Jacqui Pearl, read it and decided to fire back.
Here is the tweet.
There’s a wise lesson in all of this to all of the family members of any major college basketball/college football coach. There’s going to be nasty, nasty things written about your family member at some point on the internet. In life, people deal with the good and the bad. Coaches are paid millions and millions of dollars to coach a sport. There’s going to be some negative things they have to deal with. The firestorm of public opinion is one of those things.
There’s social media, YouTube, Twitter, and a near endless number of ways that people can criticize people in the public spotlight.
This is America. Freedom of speech goes an incredibly long way. If your relative is a famous public figure like Jacqui Pearl’s father is, well that freedom of speech goes even further. It’s easy to understand the desire to strike back and let those feelings be known. But, Pearl’s daughter is fighting a losing battle here. It’s a complete waste of time and energy but one also understands the desire to defend someone you love.
Is she really going to clap back at every writer that writes something negative about her dad? By all means, knock yourself out. The arena of public opinion is an incredibly brutal place.
Whether Pearl’s daughter likes it or not, her father’s checkered history with the NCAA will follow him wherever he goes. Does the NCAA make sense? No, it doesn’t. The NCAA has been a joke for decades for a number of reasons. But, it’s the only rule-enforcing body governing college athletics right now.
When your father Bruce Pearl is caught lying to the NCAA, that’s going to be something that fans and reporters will mention and mention often. She can tweet at reporters forever, but she won’t win the battle.

What Pearl has done at Auburn is incredible and he should be commended for that. He’s already taken them to one Final Four and could easily take them back to another this year.
He’s one of the best basketball coaches in the game. Leading the Tigers back inside the Top 5 is amazing. They look like legitimate national championship contenders.
But, even if he wins a national title, Jacqui Pearl can still be assured that somebody will tweet negative things about her father. That’s just the reality of the internet. The internet is far too vast. There are a near endless amount of opinions and commentators.
Bruce Pearl is no different from every other major football/basketball coach in America and unfortunately for him and his family, that fact makes him a target at all times.
