Cadillac Williams thanks Auburn family for providing confidence to ‘scared puppy’ in interim role
Cadillac Williams already had a spot in Auburn’s history book for what he did with the Tigers as a player. Now he’s adding a new layer to that as the program’s interim head coach. While the fanbase is grateful to him for the job he’s done, he expressed equal if not greater gratitude to them for their love.
Williams spoke again about the support of the Auburn fanbase following his second win, a 41-17 victory over Western Kentucky, last weekend. He said everyone around the school, from players to alumni to students, has provided him with the confidence to be who he is as a coach.

“They’ve gave me so much confidence to do this job. I go from the first week being a scared puppy to watching my guys come by the office and say, ‘Coach, we believe in you. Coach, we so happy.’ To giving me that confidence? The support of the Auburn family? The fans? Wow,” said Williams. “Former teammates, former players? Just students on campus? It’s unreal the confidence they’ve gave me.”
Williams likely won’t be the next full-time head coach at Auburn. However, he has more than made his case over his three appearances at the helm. Consideration doesn’t matter to him whatsoever, though. Williams says that won’t change how much he puts into the seat while he’s still sitting in it.

“I just thank this team and coaching staff for taking a chance on a guy opening their hearts…I don’t know who y’all are gonna get as the next coach. I don’t know, I really don’t care. My seat don’t dictate my service,” Williams said. “Auburn’s special. Those kids are special. There’s a lot of people that took a chance on me and poured into my life, gave me hope when I was hopeless. So, again, my seat don’t dictate my service. Now, it could impact it. But it doesn’t dictate how much I serve regardless. I’m gonna make it about the players.”
Williams has said and done all the right things since taking over for Bryan Harsin. Considering all things, there’s now probably no one else Auburn would rather have leading them into Tuscaloosa this weekend. That love, support, and gratitude for Williams will then only crescendo if he manages to lead them to a win in the Iron Bowl on Saturday.
