Chad Baker-Mazara calls out Cam Carter, officials after Flagrant foul during Auburn's win over LSU
Chad Baker-Mazara wasted no time reacting to the Flagrant 1 call on Cam Carter during Auburn‘s 87-74 victory over LSU on Wednesday night, commenting on the play in the minutes following the game.
In the first half, Carter was called for an offensive foul against Baker-Mazara, who was tightly guarding him. Baker-Mazara fell to the floor in pain, which prompted the officials to review the severity of the call. Replay showed Baker-Mazara appearing to take a shot to the midsection by Carter, and whether it was intentional or not, was then upgraded to call a Flagrant 1.
Baker-Mazara wanted a heftier penalty to be levied.
“Wait that wasn’t a flagrant 2!! That’s crazy,” he tweeted, followed by three laughing-face emojis.
The difference between the two fouls is that Flagrant 1 deems a play as unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent, while Flagrant 2 deems the contact as both unnecessary and excessive. A Flagrant 2 foul automatically ejects the player who committed the foul.
The foul, which ultimately remained a Flagrant 1, sparked a 10-0 run that helped Auburn take a 41-29 lead into halftime.

Baker-Mazara ultimately finished the game with 11 points and seven assists, nine of which were scored during the first half. The 11 points clocks Baker-Mazara right around his average of 12.8 points per game this season. He would have surpassed the mark if he didn’t miss a pair of free throws — one of the attempts after the flagrant and the other on an attempt to complete a four-point play.
However, it was Auburn’s star big man Johni Broome who provided the biggest spark for the Tigers, logging an impressive 26 points and 16 rebounds during the winning effort. Miles Kelly and Tahaad Pettiford also scored in double figures for Bruce Pearl’s squad.
Coming into the matchup, Auburn ranked No. 1 in the country with an 18-1 overall record this season. The win proves them to 4-1 in true road matchups, with the only loss coming in December against No. 2 Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Now improved to 19-1 on the season, the Tigers have extended their win streak to 12 games. They’re now improved to 7-0 in SEC play and remain alone atop the conference’s standings heading into Saturday’s matchup against Ole Miss.
Tip-off between the Tigers and Rebels is set for 2 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN.
