Auburn guard Chad Baker-Mazara left a game vs. North Carolina and was taken to get further medical attention on Tuesday night. Baker-Mazara appeared to injure his lower body hustling toward the baseline on a play.

It was a momentary scare, though, as he quickly returned to the bench. Shortly after that, he was back on the floor and playing.

As Baker-Mazara tried to track down the play, he ran past a North Carolina player and, without anything to slow his momentum, tumbled over a table off the baseline. He stayed down for a few minutes before being helped up and walking off behind the bleachers with trainers for further medical attention.

Baker-Mazara left the game with 16:10 remaining in the first half with Auburn leading the Tar Heels.

Baker-Mazara also suffered a minor knee injury in the quarterfinal against Iowa State on Monday, when he banged knees with defenders. Evidently he’s getting no reprieve with his early tumble on Tuesday.

Auburn’s been no strangers to physical play in Maui

Iowa State‘s Dishon Jackson was called for a Flagrant 1 foul against Auburn‘s Dylan Cardwell during the opening minutes of the second half on Monday night.

Cardwell was driving to the basket when Jackson appeared to make contact to Cardwell’s back, leading him to fall on the baseline. After review, the referees confirmed to call and awarded Auburn two free throws and the ball.

The play happened amid Auburn’s attempt to come back following an 18-point defecit in the first half against the Cyclones.

Cardwell missed both free throws, but was able to cash in on a Miles Kelly jump shot after they received the ball on the ensuing possesion. From there, the Tigers mounted a 13-0 run to cut the Iowa State lead to just three points before the first media timeout of the half. They tied the game at 53 with 13 minutes left in the game as both teams geared up for the exciting final stretch.

Cardwell has been a strong piece of the Auburn basketball lineup for the past four seasons. Now in his fifth season playing under Bruce Pearl, he’s seeing more playing time than ever for the Tigers. Averaging roughly five minutes more on the floor than he did in 2023, he’s started more games this season than he has in his entire career.
