Chad Baker-Mazara teases decision on Auburn return in 2025-26

With their historic season ending on Saturday, decisions on respective futures are starting to come from down on The Plains. Among the most notable of those for Auburn would be that of Chad Baker-Mazara.
On Monday, Baker-Mazara again teased a potential return to the Tigers. He posted a graphic on social media noting his possible return to the roster next season.
“2025/26 War Eagle?” Baker-Mazara tweeted with the eyes emoji.
This has not been the first mention of another collegiate season, due to the recent ruling on years at JUCOs, for Baker-Mazara. He and the program have hinted at it before, notably towards the end of the regular season regarding festivities for senior day with no further word on it coming out of San Antonio on Saturday.
Auburn just finished at 32-6 overall as the winner of the regular-season in the SEC and as the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament who made their second-ever appearance in the Final Four. Now, with their loss this weekend, the Tigers are looking at eight players from this past roster who either could or will be out of eligibility. That leaves choices left for a handful of players like Tahaad Pettiford, who declared for the 2025 NBA Draft on Monday morning while maintaining his college eligibility, and Jahki Howard as well as Baker-Mazara.

Baker-Mazara just finished his second season with Auburn and his fifth overall in college after a season apiece at Duquesne, San Diego State, and Northwest Florida State College. He has, in 119 appearances over his four years in total in Division I, averaged 9.7 points (44.2% FG, 39.8% 3PT), 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.0 steals.
He’s now coming off a career-best season in year two at Auburn. Baker-Mazara, a selection on the All-SEC Third Team, posted 12.3 points (44.8% FG, 38.1% 3PT), 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game this year as the Tigers’ leader in steals and free-throws made while being second in scoring and third in assists among other key statistics.
Baker-Mazara has become a polarizing college player with his play for Auburn but also for behavior like technical or flagrant fouls, which have led to two ejections in his past two years. That’ll make this decision worth watching to see if he’ll be back playing in The Jungle for a sixth overall season next year.
