After Hugh Freeze’s first win as the head football coach at Auburn on Saturday, the Tigers got some more good news on Sunday.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star interior offensive lineman DeAndre Carter has committed to Auburn, choosing the Tigers over Texas and Michigan State.

Carter is the No. 151 overall player in the 2024 cycle, per the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 IOL and No. 16 player out of California.

The 6-foot-3.5, 340-pounder attended Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend on July 28, his first visit to the Plains since taking an official back on June 16. That trip helped the Tigers get to the finish line and earn Carter’s pledge.

“Family, I mean I love everything, but probably the thing that stands out more than the others is probably just like the family atmosphere,” Carter said after Big Cat. “A lot of colleges say they have it but I definitely feel it a lot here.”

He also sees an opportunity for early playing time.

“Just how much of an impact I can make,” Carter added. “How much importance and what I can do for myself here. What is best for myself. It is very important. It made me feel great. Just how important I feel, how important they make me feel and how I can contribute to the team.”

With Carter in the fold, Auburn’s recruiting class jumps four spots to No. 11 nationally and No. 7 in the SEC in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers are rolling after a big July, having added their two highest-ranked recruits in the span of three days, both of whom flipped from AU’s biggest rivals.

On July 26, Clanton (Ala.) Chilton County five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick, the No. 31 overall player and No. 3 LB in the cycle, flipped from Georgia to Auburn. On July 29, Foley (Ala.) five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson followed suit, flipping from Alabama to the Tigers. Thompson, the No. 29 overall player and No. 8 WR in the cycle, is now Auburn’s highest-ranked commit.

The Tigers also added commitments from four-star athlete Jalewis Solomon, four-star defensive lineman TJ Lindsey and three-star lineman Dimitry Nicolas in the month of August.
