Former Auburn QB Nick Marshall arrested on gun possession charge
Former Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was arrested on gun charges following a traffic stop in Columbus, Ga., on Thursday.
The news was broken by WRBL in Columbus, which reports that police stopped a vehicle Marshall was driving and found an automatic handgun that had been modified. Marshall was in the car with a 32-year-old woman, who was also charged.
Marshall was charged with a gun possession felony for “possession of a sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, dangerous weapon or silencer.”
The former Auburn quarterback was part of one of the most cherished runs in school history, when the Tigers made a run at the BCS national title during the 2013 season. Auburn came up just short in the championship game against Florida State in an instant classic.
Nick Marshall, of course, was part of the “Prayer at Jordan Hare” play that will live forever in Auburn lore, as well. That one was an improbable deflection of a pass deep downfield that landed in Ricardo Louis‘ hands and went for a touchdown, continuing the Tigers’ magical run.

Marshall finished his Auburn career with 4,508 yards passing and 34 touchdowns during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He threw 13 interceptions. He was also a terrific runner, piling up 1,866 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns across the two seasons.
The talented dual-threat quarterback did not garner a ton of NFL Draft interest and went undrafted during the 2015 NFL Draft.
Following his time at Auburn, Marshall spent a few years in the NFL anyway. He bounced around a bit, having stints with Jacksonville and the New York Jets. Eventually he landed in the Canadian Football League, where he suited up for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Nick Marshall was still active as a player for Saskatchewan prior to his arrest, according to an online roster for the organization.
