Former Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold commits to Auburn out of transfer portal
Auburn appears to have found its next quarterback from the NCAA transfer portal, with former Oklahoma gunslinger Jackson Arnold signing with Hugh Freeze and the Tigers, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
Additionally, Arnold’s visit to Mississippi State has been called off, with him locked in with Auburn, according to Nakos.
Arnold’s plans to enter the transfer portal were made public on Dec. 4 and after a little time for consideration, he’s made his choice.
The talented quarterback appeared in seven games as a backup in 2023, making just one start, then entered the 2024 season as Oklahoma’s chosen starter at the position. Things probably didn’t go quite as well as Jackson Arnold would have hoped.
He was benched after a shaky start that saw him throw seven touchdowns against three interceptions in three and a half games.
Jackson Arnold would continue to play here and there, splitting time with freshman Michael Hawkins throughout the season. Arnold finished the 2024 campaign 154-of-246 passing for 1,421 yards and 12 touchdowns, against three interceptions. He also ran for 444 yards and three touchdowns.

Auburn, of course, is looking for an upgrade at the quarterback position after two years of Payton Thorne running the show.
Thorne’s struggles were well-documented; He finished the 2024 season with 2,713 yards passing, to go along with 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 283 yards and two scores.
The good news is Jackson Arnold should be a pretty good fit for the offense Hugh Freeze wants to run.
Whether a new stop and a fresh start can help him put the troubling season from Oklahoma in the past remains to be seen. But one of the transfer portal’s bigger moves is now official.
