Auburn took down No. 10 Ole Miss on Saturday night 31-20. After the win, some fans were comparing Auburn quarterback Bo Nix to former Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace. Wallace took exception to a tweet that stated Bo Nix has “even more Bo energy than Bo Wallace.”

“Bo Nix won’t touch my (numbers) so don’t compare him to me,” Wallace tweeted.”

Wallace has since deleted his tweets.

Nix completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 276 yards and a touchdown for Auburn in Saturday’s win. He also had 30 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. On the season, Nix has thrown for 1,764 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also has 189 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. While he has been inconsistent at quarterback at times, Nix has put together a solid season for Auburn.

Wallace played at Ole Miss from 2012 to 2014. In his three-year career, he threw for 9,534 yards, 62 touchdowns and 41 interceptions. He also had 944 yards rushing and two scores on the ground. Wallace was undrafted following his collegiate career. He was invited to rookie minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was not offered a contract.

Harsin has been pleased with the progression of Nix at quarterback for Auburn

Prior to Saturday’s game against Ole Miss, Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin assessed Nix’s play at quarterback this season. Harsin noted that Nix has progressed well.

“From earlier this year, he understands what we are trying to do now,” Harsin said. “That just takes time and none of that (learning curve) is his fault. You just have to have reps and experience and we as coaches have to learn our players, especially at quarterback.

“You are not going to just put a guy in there and things are going to click all at once. His practiced habits, his fundamental improvements with his footwork and upper body mechanics and where his eyes are has been very good. He is now finishing throws and being more accurate than earlier in the year.”

Harsin noted that Nix has consistently put in the work to become a better quarterback, and that Auburn hope he continues to do so moving forward.

“He’s always put in the time and now I think he is using that time with more focus and figuring out what he needs to improve,” Harsin said. “We are trying to fine-tune those things and iron those things out. We are still a work in progress, but I think he will continue to work on those things and continue to improve.”
