Former Oregon Ducks defensive back DJ James announced on Sunday that he’ll be heading back home to Alabama to play for the Auburn Tigers.

“I’m Home,” James posted on his Instagram account.

The sophomore corner from Spanish Fort, Alabama, chose the Auburn Tigers over Ole Miss and Miami. Since this is the first transfer of his career, James will be immediately eligible for Auburn in 2022.

The 6-foot-0, 180-pound redshirt sophomore posted 46 total tackles (34 solo) and two interceptions this year.

DJ James had a breakout year in 2021, racking up 46 tackles, four pass breakups, and two interceptions for the Ducks. James snatched a game-winning interception this year against UCLA on the final drive of the game.

James found himself in trouble once he and Jamal Hill allegedly shot three people with an airsoft gun in early August. Mario Cristobal suspended both players indefinitely for the incident. James and Hill eventually returned, but they missed the Fresno State game.

In 2020, he appeared in all seven games in Oregon’s Covid-19 shortened season, racking up 14 tackles and one pass breakup.

As a high school prospect, James attended Spanish Fort High School in Mobile, Alabama. He was a consensus three-star prospect by all major recruiting services.

When he originally committed to the Ducks back in 2019, he made a flip from the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He boasted 18 scholarship offers out of high school–including Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Alabama, and many others.
