With the weight on Auburn this offseason, the recent developments surrounding a handful of people and players, specifically RB Jarquez Hunter, are anything but positive for the Tigers. Greg McElroy is now concerned that this issue for the program could linger into the fall and affect their season.
McElroy addressed the suspensions during a segment on ‘Always College Football’ on Monday. He said there’s no point in trying to determine how long these circumstances could continue at the moment. However, he says it’s an area for concern for Auburn as he believes this is something that could cost Hunter some time next season.
“At this point, I can’t even begin to speculate on when they will return,” McElroy said. “It’s obviously a difficult situation on the football field for Auburn because (Hunter) might have been their best offensive player. If he can’t return, that would be a huge hit.”
“They are gathering the information as efficiently as humanly possible,” said McElroy. “But this could have a pretty significant effect on what Auburn might be offensively if, for whatever reason, Jarquez Hunter isn’t available in the fall.”
This all stems from a video that circulated itself on social media last week. It allegedly documents Hunter in the middle of a sexual act with another person.

“We are aware of the situation and take this matter very seriously,” the statement from Auburn’s university’s executive director of public affairs read. “The appropriate office are conducting a thorough review. Indefinite suspensions have been issued for violation of applicable Auburn Athletics department policy. No further comment will be provided at this time.”
This is significant news for the Tigers as Hunter is going to be key in their offense in 2023. On3’s Top 100 College Football Players in 2023 recently slated at No. 56 in the nation. He also made the cut as one of Matt Zenitz’s offensive spring practice standouts. This all comes after he tallied 892 total yards and nine touchdowns overall last season off of 121 touches.
We’ll have to see how this continues to unfold down on The Plains. It’s not a positive situation for anyone, though, as Auburn heads into the summer with major questions surrounding Hunter.
