Gus Malzahn trolls Alabama, reminds everyone where he was during Kick Six
It’s the time of year when there isn’t a whole lot going on in the world of college football. So, Alabama fans weren’t expecting to get trolled in early July. However, former Auburn coach Gus Malzahn decided to take a shot via Twitter anyway.
The SEC Network’s Twitter account looked to drum up some conversation, by asking everyone where they were when the Kick Six happened. Well, Malzahn remembers exactly where he was.
“Around the 50yd line on the home sideline,” Gus Malzahn tweeted.
There are a lot of things that Gus Malzahn is going to be remembered for when his career is all said and done. He’s been incredibly influential in offensive design, coached Cam Newton, was a phenomenal high school coach, and was one of the best coaches when it came to competing with Nick Saban. So, it’s really only fair that he celebrates the most iconic game of his Auburn tenure.
However, this isn’t the first time Malzahn has brought up the Kick Six on Twitter. Last offseason, Paul Finebaum asked what the best play you’ve seen in person was. Malzahn had the quick response of the Kick Six.
This year’s Iron Bowl will represent the 10th anniversary of the Kick Six. Including the 2013 game, Auburn is just 3-7 against Alabama over the last decade. That includes a 3-5 record by Gus Malzahn during his run at Auburn.

Gus Malzahn was fired by Auburn following the 2020 season. He then took the UCF job, replacing Josh Heupel. In 2023, he will lead the Knights into the Big 12.
Gus Malzahn compared Auburn to UCF
Gus Malzahn didn’t take a ton of time off jumping from Auburn to UCF. Immediately, he noticed differences between the two schools.
“It’s two different places, there’s no doubt. Of course I’ve told you before, I loved my time at Auburn. I was so blessed to be the head coach there for eight years. Coordinator there for three years. Won a championship, almost won two. Had some really good times,” Malzahn said.
“UCF is a young school. It’s up and coming. Orlando’s obviously different than Auburn. You know, Orlando’s a great place to live. Some of the best brands in the world are here. There’s no NFL team, so when you look at the NIL and the future of college football and what it looks like, I think we’re in a super spot.”
