Hugh Freeze details his vision for Auburn football
Hugh Freeze has a lot on his plate as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers. All sorts of expectations were placed upon him the second he got the job for what he is supposed to accomplish and, in turn, what his team is supposed to accomplish on the field. Even so, success on the gridiron isn’t his only focus on this next stop of his coaching career.
Freeze described his vision for Auburn’s program during an interview on ‘The Hard Count’ with On3’s JD PicKell. First and foremost, his focus is on producing as many quality young men as he does quality football players. He also hopes they learn the value of their beliefs, behaviors, and habits which, in turn, lead to certain results.

“To develop young men to go out into society that have learned valuable, valuable lessons from this coaching staff and from playing experiences. Both good and bad,” said Freeze. “And, hopefully, they learn from the times we’ve made mistakes (as well as) the times we got it right. Learn your beliefs truly drive your behaviors, which will create some type of habit that will give you a result.”
Freeze has his work cut out for him in that aspect as well as between the lines. Auburn has posted two straight losing campaigns under Bryan Harsin. The Tigers have also seen double-digit wins just once since appearing in the national championship in 2013. Then, come the postseason, they’ve won just two of their last eight bowl game appearances.

Add in a need for recruiting improvement and there’s plenty to juggle for Freeze heading into his first season on The Plains.
Still, wins and losses only go so far in his mind compared to how he can help his players. Playing at Auburn can do plenty for their football career. Even so, Freeze wants the experience to be just as valuable to their future day-to-day lives.
However, while that’s the crucial part of his vision, Freeze also does want them to pick up some jewelry along the way.
“Do all of that while winning a national championship,” Freeze added.
