JUCO prospect Emeka Opurum committed to Auburn basketball, according to a post on his Twitter profile. He previously played at Butler College.

As a freshman during the 2024-25 season, Opurum averaged 22 minutes per game while starting 25 of 33 games played. He averaged 9.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and blocked 2.6 shots per game. Opurum was also solid by connecting on 67% of his shots from the field.

Perhaps a bit under the radar, Opurum could be a very solid addition for Bruce Pearl and company. Opurum made it official with a statement on social media.

“I want to thank God for this opportunity and his direction this past year which helped me grow on and off the court,” Opurum wrote. “Thank you to my teammates, coaches, trainers and teachers at Butler College and in Nigeria! I would like to announce my commitment to Auburn University!”

Emeka Opurum latest portal addition for Auburn

Emeka Opurum was the latest transfer portal addition for the Tigers. They also recently landed KeShawn Murphy from Mississippi State.

Murphy spent three years in Starkville and took a leap forward during the 2024-25 season. He averaged 11.7 points while leading Mississippi State with 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. He also shot 56.6% from the field.

As a sophomore in 2024, Murphy averaged just 4.7 points and didn’t make a start in 21 appearances. He then took on a larger role off the bench at Mississippi State as a junior and entered the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining.
