The LSU pitching staff got off to a rough start Sunday afternoon against Auburn.

The top-ranked Tigers allowed the first eight Auburn batters to reach as Auburn took a 6-1 lead in the first inning.

Christian Little got the start for LSU and allowed five straight batters to reach. Little walked four batters and allowed an RBI single to Ike Irish, before being pulled from the game.

Little was replaced by Griffin Herring, who also struggled.

Herring faced three batters, allowing two walks and a hit, as Auburn pushed its lead to 6-1 in the first.

Bryson Ware, Cooper McMurray and Kason Howell each had RBI walks for Auburn in the first inning. Caden Green also drove in a pair of runs with a single.

Gavin Guidry eventually came in and got three outs for LSU to end the inning, but not before plenty of damage was already done.

Auburn is attempting to earn its second consecutive series win over a top 5 opponents.

The Tigers beat South Carolina two games to one last weekend in Columbia.

Auburn won Game 1 against the Gamecocks 8-3 and clinched the series with a 9-5 victory in Game 2. The Tigers did drop Game 3 to South Carolina.

This weekend, Auburn dropped Game 1 against LSU 3-0 on Friday night, before bouncing back for an 8-6 win on Saturday.

Auburn jumped out to a big lead in the first inning on Sunday and is trying to hold on for the series win.

Auburn outfield wall snatches home run from glove of Mississippi State centerfielder

The Auburn softball team also got some help from its opponent on Sunday.

Mississippi State centerfielder Brylie St. Clair assisted Auburn batter Nelia Peralta on a hit that ended up being a home run.

St. Clair was pushed back to the warning track in an attempt to catch what looked to be a very long out. She misjudged how deep Peralta’s fly ball went, and then wasn’t in the best position to record the out. Instead, the ball fell into her glove almost simultaneously as her body hit the wall. The ball bounced out of her glove before she could secure it, and it rolled over the wall for a solo home run.
