Paul Finebaum: Auburn is an 'extremely dangerous' team against Texas A&M, Alabama in final weeks
Auburn hasn’t exactly been impressive in Year 2 under Hugh Freeze. The Tigers are 4-6 (1-5) heading down the stretch with tough games remaining against Texas A&M and Alabama.
With that said, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum still believes Auburn is extremely dangerous. He shared Monday morning on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning that he wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the Tigers pull off an upset against the Aggies or Crimson Tide.
“Extremely dangerous,” Finebaum said. “And I don’t really think it takes much to say that. This is a good football team. Not a great football team, but a team that has been capable. And I frankly think this weekend is extremely dangerous for A&M, especially a program that has not looked good on the road, who has the biggest game maybe in its program’s history coming up a week from now.
“That’s a very tough spot where Auburn literally has nothing to lose.”
Auburn is hosting Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, before ending the season at Alabama on Nov. 30.
Hugh Freeze has been under some heat at Auburn so far this season, but he has a couple of weeks to change the narrative about the Tigers program. Auburn is coming off of a 48-14 win over UL-Monroe this past weekend.
“We’ll save the Iron Bowl for next week. I don’t think it takes too much imagination if you’ve watched the last two years. But I think for Hugh Freeze, this is the moment,” Finebaum said. “You beat A&M… you can suddenly turn a season around and maybe glide into Tuscaloosa with tremendous momentum.”

While Finebaum didn’t share a ton of thoughts on the Iron Bowl matchup coming up, he did point out that two of the past three years have been extremely close.
Alabama has won four straight over the Tigers but the Crimson Tide needed a miraculous play from Jalen Milroe on fourth down last year to pull off the win. Meanwhile, two years ago Alabama survived 24-22 in four overtimes.
“The last couple of years, I think, have taught us all what we already knew, that in spite of records, it’s a different game,” Finebaum said. “It’s hard really to explain, especially when you think about what happened last year and what happened a couple of years ago with the four overtime game, that nothing else matters in that game other than desire.”
