Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson comment on new Auburn OC Austin Davis
Auburn made it official on Saturday, hiring Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Austin Davis as the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator. Davis played in the NFL from 2012-2018 before joining Seattle’s staff in 2019. In addition to serving as Auburn’s offensive coordinator, Davis will serve as the team’s quarterbacks coach.
Davis also played for the Seahawks, one of six teams he played for in his NFL career. He played his college football at Southern Miss.
As he takes over Auburn’s offense, Davis brings valuable experience with him from working with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. In Davis’ first season as Seattle’s quarterbacks coach, Wilson threw for over 4,000 yards, along with a franchise record 40 touchdowns. He also had 384 completions and completed 68.8% of his passes, both of which set franchise records.
Wilson had great success during Davis’ tenure in Seattle. Davis even served as Wilson’s backup quarterback in 2017. Now, Wilson is excited to see Davis get a great opportunity with Auburn.

“I think Austin is going to be a brilliant offensive coordinator and potential head coach one day,” Wilson said of Davis. “He has a passion for the game, number one. Number two, he’s got an understanding of the game as he’s played the position at the highest level in the National Football League. And three, he’s an amazing teacher. He’s an amazing teacher of the game. He keeps it simple in terms of relaxing the quarterback’s mind. He’ll be an amazing coach at Auburn.”
Pete Carroll: Davis will be a ‘big benefit’ to Auburn’s program
Davis is still early in his coaching career, but he is seen as one of the better offensive minds in the game. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who both coached Davis and worked alongside him, thinks that Auburn made a great hire in Davis.
“Austin is going to show that he is one of the bright young minds in the game,” Carroll said. “He’s been able to transition from player to coach unlike anybody I’ve ever seen. It was just so smooth for him, and he’s been thinking like a coach for a long time, obviously because he was able to capture the role. Russ (Wilson) thinks the world of him, Shane (Waldron) thinks the world of him, and I do too because he is really, really good at what he does. He is going to really be a big benefit to their program.”
