Pete Thamel says Bryan Harsin's firing is 'an inevitability'
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin is doomed. It’s no longer a matter of if but when for Tigers decision-makers to move on. Thamel joined the College GameDay crew Saturday morning to talk coaches on the hot seat, and the first name he brought up was Harsin’s.
It’s no secret that Harsin’s tenure with the Tigers is likely coming to an end, and Thamel confirmed that notion on GameDay. Here was the college football insider on Bryan Harsin’s immediate future with the program and why a decision may need to be made sooner rather than later:
“Two things to watch at Auburn where Bryan Harsin’s firing remains an inevitability. The first potential trigger could be the result of today’s game against Georgia. The second is: they started an athletic director hiring process there. They likely don’t want the new AD’s first act to be to fire Harsin. So that could be a time pressure as well.”
Grave words for the Auburn coach. With a new regime taking over the athletic department soon, the Tigers may just want to wipe the slate clean and cut ties with a head coach that just isn’t getting the job done.

Also, Pete Thamel mentions that a bad result vs. Georgia could one of the last nails in the coffin for Harsin. Given that Auburn is a four-touchdown underdog on the road vs. the defending national champions and current No. 2 team in the country…hopes are not high for Coach Harsin.
Perhaps Auburn makes a move as soon as tonight if the game vs. the Dawgs is the titanic blowout most expect. A lot of moving parts on the Plains.
Georgia hosts Auburn in the annual East-West rivalry between the two teams this season. Despite the Tigers spiraling towards the bottom of the SEC standings, the game still earned the primetime 3:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS. The whole nation may be tuned in for Harsin’s final hoorah.
