According to On3’s Joe Tipton, former Texas Tech guard Kevin Overton has committed to Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers. Overton is the third player Auburn has acquired this offseason via the NCAA transfer portal, fresh off their Final Four appearance. However, the previous two are forwards as Overton figures to be a key guard next season on the Plains.

“NEWS: Texas Tech transfer guard Kevin Overton has committed to Auburn, he tells @On3sports,” Tipton said via X. “The 6-5 sophomore had a season-high 20 points on Arizona in the Big 12 semifinals. Native of Oklahoma City and began his career at Drake.”

Overton played in 36 games this season for Texas Tech and was a nice piece coming off the bench. He averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2% from the field. Auburn might be hoping to improve the three-point shot as Overton made just over 33% of his attempts.

This was the second time Overton went through the transfer portal process after signing with Drake coming out of Wichita (KS) Sunrise Christian Academy. Opting to play in the Big 12 last season, a new challenge is on the way against SEC competition.

According to the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, Overton is the No. 127 player in this cycle. Looking specifically at the shooting guard position, the now-former Red Raiders is at No. 20.

Auburn, Bruce Pearl continue to rebuild roster after Final Four run

Things are going to look different at Auburn heading into the 2025-2026 season. Pearl has seen plenty of turnover since the Final Four. Either players are out of eligibility, are testing the NBA Draft waters, or have decided to enter the transfer portal.

As mentioned, Auburn had previously landed two names out of the portal. One is a familiar name inside the SEC in KeShawn Murphy via Mississippi State. He entered with a ‘Do Not Contact’ tag and a few days later, announced him commitment to the Tigers.

Keyshawn Hall was the first splash Pearl and his staff were able to make. Coming from UCF, Hall was the No. 2-ranked small forward in the cycle per the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings.

Auburn is far from done loading up on talent. While a a few departing names will take hits, Pearl knows the goal will be finding the right guys to continue to contend in the SEC — possibly repeating as conference champions.
