WATCH: Auburn unveils all-white jersey, facemask combination for Penn State whiteout game
On Saturday night, No. 10 Penn State will host No. 22 Auburn in one of the best matchups of the weekend. The game will be the first traditional whiteout game for the Penn State crowd in Happy Valley. Auburn, though, didn’t want to be left out of the Penn State whiteout. The Tigers unveiled an all-white jersey and facemask combination for the game.
The uniform reveal is notable, because it is the first time that Auburn has ever worn white facemasks, according to Auburn’s director of marketing Daniel Heck.
Auburn truly wanted to be a part of Penn State’s whiteout
Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin said earlier in the week that Penn State’s whiteout is something that everyone wants to be a part of. It is one of college football’s greatest traditions and environments, and Harsin has his team ready to roll into Happy Valley on Saturday night.
“That should be something that we all embrace and want to be a part of,” Harsin said of Auburn playing in Penn State’s whiteout. “And if you’re a guy that is worried about that, or shying away, don’t get on the plane. We’ll take somebody else. We’ll take the guys that have the mindset to go play and do a job in this game and we’ll compete with them.”
Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford also understands just how special the whiteout is. He said that to truly appreciate it, you must experience it in person. Auburn and Penn State will be able to do so on Saturday night.
“You can’t watch the whiteout on TV and say that you’ve seen the whiteout,” Clifford said. “You have to be here to experience it. It’s one of those experiences that is jaw-dropping, inspiring, just a sense of community that you really can’t feel anywhere else.”
Auburn is 2-0 after games against Akron and Alabama State to begin the season. The Tigers are allowing just five points per game, which leads the country. Penn State defeated a good Wisconsin team in week one before beating Ball State last weekend. Penn State has a strong rushing attack, but Auburn’s run defense has been stout so far.
The matchup between Penn State and Auburn should be one of the best of the weekend.
