Class of 2023 five-star shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter has committed to Baylor, he told On3.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound prospect out of McKinney, Texas, located right outside of Dallas, becomes the Bears second commitment to the 2023 class. Walter joins four-star point guard Miro Little (No. 60), an international prospect from Finland.

Walter also received offers from Texas, Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, and others.

The Texas native is ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall shooting guard in the country. Walter will play his senior year of high school at powerhouse Link Academy in Branson, Missouri.

Walter talks decision

“I chose Baylor because Coach (Scott) Drew, Coach (Alvin) Brooks, and the rest of the staff always made me feel like family from the jump,” Walter said to On3. “I have the best relationship with them because they were my first offer and I like the way they play giving their guards freedom to rock out while still playing controlled. Also, I can see what they are building and I wanted to be apart of it.”

Scouting Summary

Ja’Kobe Walter has a great frame, long arms with wide shoulders. What you first see in his game is his shooting ability. He has great balance and a quick, repeatable release. While not the quickest player, the 6-5 shooting guard is comfortable getting to his spots on the floor. He has a solid handle when pushing the break and is a solid team defender. With the way shooting is valued in today’s game, Walter is one of the best in-game makers in the 2023 class. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
