It’s safe to say that Baylor Bears head coach Drew Scott was not a fan of the officiating crew and Saturday night matchup against the Iowa State Cyclones. And his athletic director, Mack Rhoades, was right there with him and his displeasure with the referees.

Drew was thrown out of Baylor’s 70-68 victory over Iowa State after getting T’ed up by the officials following what some would consider questionable calls. After the game, Rhoades took it upon himself to address the officiating with an impromptu press conference. Here’s what the Baylor AD had to say about the situation.

“Tonight was an embarrassment for this league. Scott said we have the best basketball league in the country. And the officiating tonight did not match that. Period. End of story. This league needs to get better,” said Rhoades, according to local sports reporter Zach Smith.

Rhoades would also go on to say that he plans to reach out to the conference officials about the officiating in the contest. However, he might not have to go too far to voice his complaint as Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark was in attendance and got a front-row seat to all the action both in the game and with the referees.

Drew ejected after receiving second technical against Iowa State

Drew was ejected from Saturday night’s game against Iowa State after being assessed his second technical foul. Drew appeared to be arguing with a referee after a foul was called on the Bears midway through the second half.

The play in question was a foul on Caleb Lohner and Drew continued to jaw at officials as the Cyclones shot their free throws. However, before Curtis Jones could attempt the second, Drew was called for the technical.

CBS Sports college basketball writer Gary Parrish weighed in on the technicals called against Drew, calling them “goofy.” It is the first ejection of Drew’s career and he didn’t appear to be acting too out of hand on video.

“I’ll wait for the explanation from the officials before I make a final judgement — but I didn’t see a great reason for Scott Drew and Baylor to get all of these technicals,” Parrish wrote on Twitter. “This seems goofy and like the kind of thing that only happens in college basketball.
