Baylor football announces death of 39-year old former standout Tyler Lindstrom

Tyler Lindstrom, the 39-year old former Baylor football standout, was found dead inside his home in Austin, Texas on Tuesday afternoon, per Erin Bamer of the Omaha-World Herald. His cause of death remains unknown, according to his brother, Brett Lindstrom, who is a senator in the state of Nebraska.

The Baylor football team posted a message in his memory on their Twitter page on Friday afternoon.

Tyler Lindstrom had lived in several states and was between jobs at the time of his death, per the report. His brother said that Tyler typically kept in close contact with his parents, but they recently went on vacation and hadn’t heard from him in a couple of days. That’s when police were called to do a welfare check and they found him in the kitchen.

As a member of an athletic family–Tyler Lindstrom was determined to play Division I college football. He worked hard and was eventually awarded a scholarship by the Baylor coaches before his senior season. Lindstrom saw the most action during the 2004 season–his junior year. He racked up 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and had one sack that year for the Bears.

Lindstrom’s father, brother, and his two uncles all played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Lindstrom was a standout in high school for Millard West

In high school, Lindstrom was a standout for Millard West High School (Omaha, Nebraska). As a senior he led the Wildcats to a 11-1 overall record, while racking up 87 tackles, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He also snatched an interception and returned it for a touchdown. Lindstrom was named the Wildcats Defensive Player of the Year after being the leader of a defensive unit that allowed the fewest yards per game by any team in the state. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound linebacker also guided his team to a runner-up finish in the state championship as a junior.
