Baylor forward Jason Asemota plans to enter Transfer Portal

Baylor Bears small forward Jason Asemota plans to enter the Transfer Portal, per Joe Tipton. He just finished his freshman season with the program. He officially appeared in the portal shortly after news broke on Tuesday.

Asemota played his high school basketball at Hillcrest Prep in Arizona but is from Massachusetts. He was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. He was also the 46th-ranked player nationally and the 15th-ranked small forward overall in that cycle. On3’s Jamie Shaw broke down what he saw from Asemota as a high school prospect.

“Jason Asemota has an excellent frame,” Shaw said. “Good length and the coveted positional size you look for as you continue to move up levels. Asemota is a theoretical shooter. When his feet are set his form is consistent and the ball goes in. With the physical frame and shooting touch you can clearly see the upside in his game. He has processing questions which lead to his consistency questions. Will need to develop the handle, add counters off the bounce and develop his scoring package. There is some intrigue with Asemota.”

In the 2024-25 season with Baylor, Jason Asemota appeared in 24 games and averaged 6.3 minutes. He also averaged 1.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game. From the field, he shot 32.6 percent. On to top of that, he shot 25 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, he averaged 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

Coming out of high school, Asemota shared his confidence with Shaw. In particular, he has long since been confident in his shooting ability.

“I am really confident in my shot. I have gotten better at getting to the rim or using my one-dribble pull-up,” Asemota said as a recruit. “My handle is starting to become a strength and it is becoming a real threat for me. I watch a lot of Khris Middleton, his ability off the dribble and his silky-smooth way to get to the basket, and I try to model my game after him.”

Last season, Baylor went 20-15 overall and 10-10 in Big 12 play. That was good for a tie for seventh in the final conference standings and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. There, the Bears managed to win a game but lost in the second round to Duke. It was their fourth straight season losing in the second round.
