Baylor forward Yanis Ndjonga has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He was a sophomore who has dealt with injuries and did not play in 2023-24.

Ndjonga missed the entire 2023-24 season with an ACL injury that he suffered in the summer of 2023. That significantly set back his progress.

Prior to enrolling at Baylor, Yanis Ndjonga played as a freshman at the New Mexico Military Institute. He averaged 13.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 26 games for the Broncos.

He also displayed some range to his game that year, making 15 of 36 3-point attempts. That had programs like Baylor interested in him.

He had multiple double-doubles during his stint at the New Mexico Military Institute, including a 16-rebound, 12-point outing in a game against Lamar Community College. He also had a 20-point, 11-rebound outing against Garden City.

Yanis Ndjonga’s season high in scoring came against Strength ‘N Motion, where he scored 30 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Getting healthy going forward, of course, will be a major key.

Baylor also expected to lose another

Yanis Ndjonga isn’t the only Baylor player to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Small forward Jason Asemota has also entered. He just finished his freshman season with the program.

In the 2024-25 season with Baylor, Jason Asemota appeared in 24 games and averaged 6.3 minutes. He also averaged 1.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game. From the field, he shot 32.6 percent. On to top of that, he shot 25 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, he averaged 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

Asemota played his high school basketball at Hillcrest Prep in Arizona but is from Massachusetts. He was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. He was also the 46th-ranked player nationally and the 15th-ranked small forward overall in that cycle. On3’s Jamie Shaw broke down what he saw from Asemota as a high school prospect.

“Jason Asemota has an excellent frame,” Shaw said. “Good length and the coveted positional size you look for as you continue to move up levels. Asemota is a theoretical shooter. When his feet are set his form is consistent and the ball goes in. With the physical frame and shooting touch you can clearly see the upside in his game. He has processing questions which lead to his consistency questions. Will need to develop the handle, add counters off the bounce and develop his scoring package. There is some intrigue with Asemota.”

On3’s Dan Morrison also contributed to this report.
