Baylor guard Robert Wright plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Baylor guard Robert Wright III plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per ESPN’s Myron Medcalf. Wright only spent one season with the Bears.
“The team had been under the impression that Wright had planned to remain at Baylor before his surprising decision,” Medcalf wrote on X. “The Bears said no to multiple elite players with the assumption that Wright had planned to stay, sources told ESPN.”
In his lone campaign at Baylor, Wright made 35 appearances and 21 starts. He averaged 11.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.2 steals in 29.4 minutes per game. He shot 41.4% from the field and 35.2% from beyond the arc.
Wright had his best performance of the season in Baylor’s 81-70 win over Kansas on Feb. 1. He erupted for a career-high 24 points on 9-16 shooting while piling on six assists. Wright also played well in Baylor’s two NCAA Tournament games, averaging 15 points per game in the Big Dance.
“[The] thing that drives me most is just how bad I want it,” Wright said of his motivations. “And then I just love the game. I mean, it’s all I like doing. It’s my favorite thing to do at any time of the day.”
For his efforts this season, Wright was named an All-Big Honorable Mention selection and an All-Big 12 Freshman Team member. Despite Wright’s standout freshman campaign, he isn’t receiving much buzz from NBA scouts this spring. He’ll look to improve his draft stock next season in a new environment.

Robert Wright III played high school basketball at Montverde Academy (FL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 27 overall player and No. 2 point guard in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Wright will be the sixth Baylor player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He is joined by Langston Love, Jason Asemota, Omar Adegbola, Yanis Ndjonga and Jalen Celestine.
In turn, Baylor has added three players via the transfer portal: JJ White (Omaha), Obi Agbim (Wyoming) and Michael Rataj (Oklahoma State). While all three of these players are expected to be significant contributors to the Bears next season, it’s unlikely any of them would’ve taken minutes away from Wright.
