WATCH: Baylor University live bear mascots are set to make history
Like the rest of the Big 12, Baylor’s live mascots are not pleased with Texas’ impending departure for the SEC. On Friday and Saturday, America will get to hear from the mascots ahead of the Texas-Baylor game in an interesting “first” in the college football world.
Judge Lady and Judge Joy, Baylor’s two live bears that live on campus, will become the first live mascots to send a tweet, the school announced Thursday night.
“Joy and Lady are taking to Twitter Friday and Saturday to stoke Baylor’s rivalry with the Texas Longhorns as they prepare to depart the Big 12 Conference in the next few years,” the school’s official press release states. “The newfound social media influencers will tweet – yes, really tweet – their unbridled enthusiasm about all things Baylor football, their no-bull, hot takes on life on campus and their raw opinions about their appetite for beef and, of course, apricots, honey and peanut butter.”
Usually, the two mascots tweet with the help of their student caregivers. They will now get to take the reins themselves with the help of a custom-made, paw-friendly tool. The box in the tweet above has a weight-sensitive mechanism, and when the bears step onto the box, it will send the “carefully crafted” tweets from Baylor’s biggest fans.
High-powered offenses set for a shootout
Saturday’s game between the Bears and the Longhorns will feature two of the Big 12’s best offenses.

The teams have the top-two rushing games in the conference, and both are in the top three in both passing yards and points per game.
Baylor beat a quality BYU team two weeks ago by two touchdowns, dominating the line of scrimmage and posting 303 yards on the ground. Texas has struggled mightily against the run at times this year, and if Baylor can run over them, the Longhorn defense could be in for a long day.
Texas running back and Heisman hopeful Bijan Robinson will look to get his team back on track after two consecutive losses to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Robinson has has rushed for over 120 yards in five-straight games and is third in the nation in total rushing yards. If Texas wants to make the Big 12 title game, they most likely have to win out.
Texas and Baylor kick off at 11:00 a.m. CT on ABC. The Bears are a 2.5-point favorite as of Friday morning, and they are looking to improve to 7-1 on the season.
