Baylor wide receiver Armani Winfield enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Baylor wide receiver Armani Winfield officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Friday evening, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. The former four-star prospect has played in 15 career games with eight receptions for 100 yards.

In 2022, Winfield redshirted, playing in three games: Albany, BYU, and Texas State. He hauled in a 10-yard catch vs. Albany.

In high school, he suited up for Lewisville High School, guiding the team to an 11-2 overall record as a senior. Winfield also hauled in 66 catches for 1,006 yards and eight touchdowns. He wrapped up his decorated high school career with 191 catches, 2,678 yards, and 26 touchdowns.

Winfield was honored as an Under Armour All-American in high school. A dynamic athlete, he also ran track. Winfield also chose the Bears over Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, Florida State, and Ole Miss, among others.

Baylor had a rough season this year, finishing 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the Big 12 Conference. One of their wins was a 32-29 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats. They also squeaked by UCF, pulling out a 36-35 win. Bears quarterback Blake Shapen completed 21 of 34 passes for 293 yards against the Knights, while tossing in one touchdown pass with no interceptions.

In eight games this year, Shapen completed 61.7% of his passes for 2,188 yards, while tossing in 13 touchdowns with three interceptions. His longest completion was a 71-yard strike. The Bears also had three receivers haul in over 480 receiving yards this year, Ketron Jackson, Jr, Drake Dabney, and Monaray Baldwin, the man that led the team in receiving yardage (623 yards).

In 2022, Baylor finished with a 6-7 overall record, including a 4-5 record in the Big 12 Conference. The Bears lost in their bowl game, the Armed Forces Bowl, 30-15, against the Air Force Falcons. One of their closer games of the 2022 campaign came in their heartbreaking 29-28 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs.

The Bears were ranked in the Top 25 for much of the first half of the season, but dropped out following their 36-25 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Baylor averaged 32.2 points per game, ranking them 39th in the country. Their defense surrendered 26.8 points per game, ranking them 69th out of 131 qualifying teams.
