Dave Aranda updates status of injured QB Gerry Bohanon
Baylor Bears head coach Dave Aranda updated the status of quarterback Gerry Bohanon on Monday ahead of the season finale. The starter’s status is currently day-to-day with Texas Tech coming to town Saturday.
“There’s probably not going to be someone more determined to get back than him,” Aranda said. “He’s working really hard to come back. If I had to bet, I’d bet on Gerry.”
Bohann went down on the sideline after a non-contact injury. He grabbed down at his right leg as he fell to the turf at the end of a first down run.
Late in the second quarter, the Bears junior quarterback took off on a third and one, to convert the first down. As he slowed down, Bohanon pulled up lame and dropped to the floor writhing in pain. The junior quarterback was unable to complete the drive but did go to the locker room under his own power.
Freshman Blake Shapen took over and completed the drive for the Bears, which ended with a field goal to go up 10. Gerry Bohanan left the game completing nine of his 14 pass attempts for 76 yards and one touchdown. He also had seven rushes for 18 yards.

Shapen helped the Bears finish the game with a 20-10 win behind 16-of-21 passing and 137 yards.
Bohanon, the No. 1 prospect coming out of Arkansas in the 2018 class, amassed 2,154 passing yards and 301 rushing yards in 11 games. He’s completing 64% of his passes and he has a 17:6 touchdown-interception ratio.
Baylor eyeing Big 12 title game
The Baylor Bears have the Big 12 title game looming if things go their way but Dave Aranda said they aren’t looking forward just yet.
“For us to take the next step, it’s to come out Saturday and be at our best, not with an eye toward what’s happening later in the day,” Aranda said.
There is still a chance that Baylor could reach the pinacle game, but first, the Bears need to beat Texas Tech. Then, Oklahoma State needs to beat the Sooners. That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
Getting Gerry Bohanon healthy enough to play versus Texas Tech is priority No. 1 this week.
