The defensive lineman is now the 24th member of the Bears’ 2023 recruiting class. 19 of Baylor’s recruits are from the Lone Star State.

The Bears’ group is led by Dripping Springs (Texas) four-star quarterback Austin Novosad. It is ranked No. 22 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the Big 12.

Bett is the fourth defensive lineman recruit who has pledged to Baylor. The others are Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial three-star Trey Wilson, Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point three-star DK Kalu and La Grange (Texas) three-star Jaren Woods. He is also the program’s first commitment in August. However, the Bears received a big win this month when Novosad, the No. 140 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus, decided to shut down his recruitment and stay committed to head coach Dave Aranda and his staff.

Baylor had a quieter July on the recruiting trail, earning commitments from just three prospects in Wilson, Arlington (Texas) Lamar four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Robinson and Mocksville (N.C.) Davie County three-star punter Palmer Williams. However, the Bears had a massive June, landing pledges from 12 prospects.

They include Kalu, Woods, Houston (Texas) Mayde Creek four-star cornerback Tay’Shawn Wilson, League City (Texas) Clear Falls three-star linebacker Corey Kelly, Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab School three-star cornerback Carl Williams, Franklin (Texas) three-star athlete Bryson Washington, Fort Worth (Texas) Timber Creek three-star cornerback LeVar Thornton Jr. and Newton (Ga.) three-star interior offensive lineman Sean Thompkins. Others are Lawrence (Kan.) Lawrence Free State three-star offensive tackle Calvin Clements, Argyle (Texas) three-star interior offensive lineman Wes Tucker, Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall three-star EDGE Trent Thomas and Mesquite (Texas) Horn three-star safety DJ Coleman.
