Former Oregon State PF Michael Rataj commits to Baylor

Former Oregon State power forward Michael Rataj committed to Baylor out of the NCAA transfer portal. He spent the last three seasons with the Beavers.
Rataj hails from Germany and developed more as a player coming over to the United States. Last season, he played 32 games and averaged 16.9 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game, two assists per game, shot 48.4% from the floor and 35.1% from three-point range.
As a member of the Class of 2022, Rataj was a four-star recruit out of Berlin (Germany), according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Michael Rataj commits to Baylor out of portal
With Rataj coming in through the portal, it’s a nice balance after losing some players. Baylor recently lost forward Jason Asemota to the transfer portal.

Asemota played his high school basketball at Hillcrest Prep in Arizona but is from Massachusetts. He was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. He was also the 46th-ranked player nationally and the 15th-ranked small forward overall in that cycle. On3’s Jamie Shaw broke down what he saw from Asemota as a high school prospect.
In the 2024-25 season with Baylor, Jason Asemota appeared in 24 games and averaged 6.3 minutes. He also averaged 1.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game. From the field, he shot 32.6 percent. On to top of that, he shot 25 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, he averaged 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.
“Jason Asemota has an excellent frame,” Shaw said. “Good length and the coveted positional size you look for as you continue to move up levels. Asemota is a theoretical shooter. When his feet are set his form is consistent and the ball goes in. With the physical frame and shooting touch you can clearly see the upside in his game. He has processing questions which lead to his consistency questions. Will need to develop the handle, add counters off the bounce and develop his scoring package. There is some intrigue with Asemota.”
