Scott Drew shared the latest on the ankle injuries for Baylor’s Jalen Celestine and Langston Love while speaking with the media on Monday.

Drew began with Celestine as he said that he injured his ankle in their first conference game earlier last week. He has been getting better since then but they’re still unsure if he’ll be available for Tuesday’s matchup.

“Yeah, um, at the end of the Utah game, Jalen tweaked his,” said Drew. “It’s not bad. He’s doing a good job rehabbing and we’re praying he’s back sooner rather than later. Don’t know if he’ll play tomorrow.”

As for Love, Drew said his issues are a result of a surgery that he had on his ankle towards the end of last season.

“Langston’s been – it’s the reoccurring ankle injury from his surgery. So, I mean, that’s been a ten-month process or whatever,” Drew said. “I know, with break and extra rehab, he’s feeling better.”

Celestine, the transfer from Cal, has averaged 7.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in his dozen appearances off the bench this season. Love is then posting 6.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and an assist in his eight outings on the year.

Neither of them played this past weekend in the 74-55 loss for the Bears at No. 3 Iowa State. Now, with that, Drew is hoping to see them both back in the lineup soon with the team now in Big 12 play.

“I mean, the margin of error is so thin. You take out two players in the rotation? I mean, at the end of the day, that’s real,” said Drew. “We know, in the Big 12 especially? Every night, you’ve got to have as many weapons as you can and those guys are great weapons and, most of all, they’re experienced too. I mean, one’s fifth-year, one’s a fourth-year player.”

Drew didn’t know if either Celestine of Love would be back in time for tonight’s tip-off against Cincinnati. He’s asking for their day-to-day designations to mean this day, though, against the Bearcats.

“At the end of the day, praying to get both of them back,” said Drew. “Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we’re praying it’s the sooner day-to-day.”
