Jeremy Roach hits 3-point buzzer beater to lead Baylor to victory vs. St. John's
Double overtime in the Bahamas was only ever going finish one way for Baylor — with a buzzer-beating 3-point basket from senior Jeremy Roach to secure the 18-point comeback victory over St. John’s.
Roach was fed the ball from Norchad Omier off a missed free missed free throw by St. John’s. He caught the ball in stride, squared up to the basket, and planted his feet behind the line just before the buzzer sounded. The ball hit nothing but the nylon net to improve the Bears to 4-1 on the young season.
St. John’s led by as many as five points in the second overtime period. Likewise, Roach’s 3-point basket was good for Baylor’s first lead during that span.
Roach finished the game with 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. The game-winning basket was a bit of a redemption shot for Roach, who explained why to the sideline reporter for CBS Sports Network.
“I was closing,” Roach said. “I had two free throws to put us up four in regulation. I missed the first one. My teammates had my back. They had confidence in me. And I just wanted to make a play. … We’ve just been in too many battles. Like in scrimmages. We all come together. We never backed down even though we were down 14 at the start of the second half. So, it was a beautiful win.”

Baylor led 77-75 when Roach was at the free-throw line with 16 seconds left in regulation. Missing the front end of the 1 and 1, St. John’s was able to take advantage as Kadary Richmond tied the game on a jumper with seven seconds left in regulation.
After the first overtime concluded with no outcome, St. John’s appeared to take control of the game’s momentum throughout the second overtime period. Even in the final moments when Zuby Ejiofor went to the free-throw line to push St. John’s lead to four — just like Roach, he missed the front end, leaving Baylor with just enough time to take the perfect game-winning shot.
The win keeps Baylor alive in the Baha Mar Hoops – Bahamas Championship. They’ll face the winner of Virginia and Tennessee on Friday night.
