Spencer Danielson describes what stood out to him in watching Penn State vs. SMU
Ahead of their second game against a power opponent this season in their playoff quarterfinal, Boise State’s Spencer Danielson noted what he has noticed in preparation of the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Danielson spoke about the Bronco’s opponent in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Eve during a press conference earlier this week. The first thing that he has seen is a compliment to James Franklin considering how well his team plays.
“Just how well-coached they are,” said Danielson. “I mean, there’s – in all three phases. In all three phases, they’re extremely well-coached. Very, very talented across the board. But they’re not just out there running around. They’re extremely well-coached. They’re disciplined in all three phases.”
Penn State, the runner-up in the Big Ten, will meet them in Glendale next week. The Nittany Lions are now at 12-2 overall following their opening win in the playoff at 38-3 over SMU.
Of their team, though, Danielson specifically noted the defense, especially after they forced three more turnovers, two being pick-sixes. That, along with two turnovers on downs in the first half against the Mustangs with four of the five leading to touchdowns for them.

“I mean, you talk about from the start of the game to the end? I mean, creating takeaways by their defense, I mean just started so fast,” said Danielson. “There wasn’t any working into the game.”
Danielson saw enough on tape to know what Boise State will be facing on Tuesday inside State Farm Stadium. It’s who they’ll now be playing, though, with the first spot in the semifinals on the line for both.
“Obviously, when you watch the film and you can slow it down in your office but, even watching live? I think that was on full display for me,” said Danielson.
