Waheed on his commitment to Boston College
Akbar Waheed went in-depth on his decision to choose BC with On3.
“I would say the ultimate reason I chose Boston College over other schools was because it had hit the nail right on the head in terms of what I was looking for academically and athletically. Coach (Earl) Grant and Coach Corey (McCrae) really went the extra mile in terms of my recruitment and really made it seem like I was welcomed and wanted from the jump. They have been there for me supporting the progress in my game ever since my freshman year really and that means a lot to my family and I. I trust and know that the whole staff at BC will be helping me reach my goals every single day that I’m there; never letting me get too complacent and always letting me know that I can be always be doing something that is investing into myself. The fact that my sister and some family of mine still live there just add to the fact that it is an amazing spot for me.”

Waheed’s trust in the Boston College coaching staff made all the difference.
“The thing that I believe is allowing me to trust Coach Grant, Coach Corey, and the rest of the staff is the fact that they remind me a lot about how I was raised by my parents. Growing up in a household that was heavily focused around basketball, I learned at an early age that my mom and dad were not going to sugarcoat anything with me. I have built a relationship with Boston College where I feel like that respect for one another is there. Coach Grant makes sure that the locker room is a great space to be in, one that is circled around faith in God and brotherhood. I feel that is why I have been able to trust them.”
In his own words, what type of player is Boston College getting in Akbar Waheed?
“If I was to describe my game, I would say that it is one that is willing to do anything to win. I believe that my game is very versatile on both sides the ball and stands out among others. I was taught to play the game of basketball the right way and that has allowed me to have a lot of success in my career. I have been able to really develop my game at Georgetown Prep. My high school coaches made sure I understood that I have to constantly develop my game and try to be as dynamic as possible. I try to work on having an impact in as many ways as possible to helping my team win. Scoring, rebounding, assisting and defending. So I would saying I’m working to be an all around player willing to help my team win in as many ways as possible.”
He has a message for BC fans.
“To the BC fans, you guys are getting a competitor. One that is willing to do everything in their power to win games. I am very excited for the upcoming future and can’t wait to hit the ground running!”
