Colonial Heights (Va.) Life Christian Academy three-star safety Antonio Cotman Jr. has decommitted from Boston College. He was previously pledged to the Eagles since July 2.

Cotman Jr. is the No. 660 overall prospect and No. 60 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 15 player in Virginia.

“First I would like to thank coach Haley, coach Aazaar, coach Lukabu and the entire Boston College staff for believing in me,” Cotman Jr. wrote in a statement published to social media. “Words can’t describe how much I appreciate everything. This was a very tough decision that I did not make lightly, but after thinking long and hard, I feel it’s best that I take a step back and reopen my recruitment. I will be decommitting from Boston College.”

Before backing off his pledge to Boston College, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound defensive back took two unofficial visits to the Eagles. He currently holds 19 other offers.

Following Cotman Jr.’s decision, Boston College has commitments from 16 players. The Eagles’ group ranks No. 48 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 9 in the ACC.

Head coach Jeff Hafley and his staff still have pledges from two safeties. They are Pennsauken (N.J.) three-star Kahlil Ali and Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph three-star Carter Davis.

Cotman Jr. previously chose Boston College over Arizona State, Maryland, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. The Hokies have received five visits from Cotman Jr., the most of any school during his recruitment.

Cotman Jr. has an On3 NIL Valuation of $16.4K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
