Baylor will likely be losing three of their four freshman from last year’s top-five recruiting class. That includes two in the transfer portal with Jason Asemota being the second to now have committed elsewhere.

Asemota has committed to Boston College, On3 has learned. It’ll be a move closer to home for him with this commitment out of the portal.

Asemota appeared in 24 games this season as a freshman who was a reserve for the Bears. He would average 1.6 points (32.6% FG, 25% 3PT) and 1.5 rebounds per game in 6.3 minutes per outing.

Asemota, a Lynn, Massachusetts native less than an hour from Chestnut Hill, would go on to leave and play his high school basketball out west at Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the No. 46 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as the No. 15 SF in the class and the No. 1 prospect out of the state of Arizona. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Baylor brought in the No. 4 recruiting class in the country last offseason per On3’s Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Asamota would arrive in Waco along with V.J. Edgecombe, Rob Wright, and one recruit from overseas with Marino Dubravcic from Croatia. Edgecombe, Wright, and Asamota were all rated in the Top-50 nationally. Now, none of that trio are likely to be back with the Bears as Edgecombe is projected as a top pick for the 2025 NBA Draft while Wright was also a notable transfer to BYU.

Now, Boston College has added Asemota as a quality piece for them in the portal. That’s with him rated in the Top-400 overall and a Top-75 SF per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players.
